WOODLAND HILLS - Nuclear medicine specialist Syncor International on Monday reported a jump in fourth-quarter earnings led by improved sales of its radiopharmaceutical radiopharmaceutical /ra·dio·phar·ma·ceu·ti·cal/ (-fahr?mah-soo´ti-k'l) a radioactive pharmaceutical, nuclide, or other chemical used for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.  products.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31, Syncor earnings rose 64 percent to $1.7 million, or 16 cents per diluted share, compared to $200,000 (1 cent) in 1996. The company's sales rose 4.3 percent for the quarter to $94.8 million, up from $90.9 million.

For the year, Syncor earned $11.1 million ($1.08), a 45 percent gain over 1996 when it earned $4.6 million (44 cents) for the year.

Syncor had annual sales of $380.6 million, a 3.9 percent increase over the $366.4 million it took in in 1996.
