SYMIX SYSTEMS, INC. REPORTS RESULTS FOR FISCAL 1992 THIRD QUARTER
COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Symix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS: SYMX) today announced its financial results for its third fiscal 1992 quarter ended March 31, 1992. Third quarter revenues increased 39 percent to $6.2 million from $4.4 million a year ago. Net income was $132,000, or $0.05 per share, compared to $139,000, or $0.06 per share, in the same quarter last year. Earnings per share in the third quarter reflect approximately 25 percent more shares outstanding on a weighted average basis compared to last year as a result of the company's Initial Public Offering in March 1991.
For the nine months ended March 31, 1992, revenues were $18.9 million compared to $14.2 million last year, and net income was $984,000, or $0.34 per share, compared to $1,326,000, or $0.59 per share, last year.
Larry J. Fox, Symix's chairman and chief executive officer, stated that he was pleased with third quarter results which came in slightly ahead of internal plans. Fox said, "We started fiscal 1992 with significantly lower growth than we had originally anticipated because of the economic slowdown. Since the first fiscal quarter, however, we have now experienced two consecutive quarters where the growth rate has increased. The strong sales performance this quarter is a sign that the economy may be turning around, and while we are still cautious with respect to economic recovery, we do have better visibility heading into the fourth fiscal quarter."
Commenting on the reduction in net margins in the third quarter compared to last year, Fox said, "The reduction in net margins is accounted for solely by our international strategy. We have incurred significant startup costs associated with the opening of full service offices in the United Kingdom and Canada in the last six months, all of which was anticipated. Both of these offices are now staffed with trained sales and support staffs, and product for these markets is now available with the release this month of SYMIX Version 2.6i, our first international version. In addition, we signed two new international distributors during the third quarter, one in Holland and the other in Bangkok. We now have all of the elements in place for our international strategy to begin making a contribution to the bottom line, and we are optimistic that it will begin doing so this year."
