NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Nothing says North Hollywood Arts Hollywood Arts is a full-service art center opened in Hollywood, California. The program is unique in that it is designed to give homeless, runaway and at-risk teenagers access to the arts both for art therapy and to teach job-readiness and life skills that will help them get off  and Entertainment District quite like a 15-foot-tall surrealist bronze sculpture bronze sculpture. Bronze is ideal for casting art works; it flows into all crevices of a mold, thus perfectly reproducing every detail of the most delicately modeled sculpture. At least that is what the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  decided Friday when it gave final approval for construction of the $84,000 ``entryway'' sculpture for the district.

The landscaped entryway piece will be erected on a concrete island in the intersection where Lankershim and Burbank boulevards meet Tujunga Avenue.

Designed by North Hollywood artist Stephen Schubert, the sculpture is being funded by the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Community Redevelopment Agency to beautify the area.

Schubert, a professional artist whose design prevailed over 12 other concepts submitted to the city, said he expects the piece to go up by spring of 2001.

He said he chose the image of a phoenix rising from a female hand emerging from a chair balanced on a globe to represent the renewal of life in the area.

Located just blocks from the North Hollywood Red Line subway station, the sculpture marks the beginning of a mile-long strip of Lankershim that is home to numerous theaters, art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants.
