SYMANTEC LICENSES TECHNOLOGIES FROM MICROSOFT IN SYMANTEC C++ PROFESSIONAL 6.0

NEW DEVELOPMENT TOOL INCLUDES WIN 32S AND MICROSOFT FOUNDATION CLASSES
CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC) announced today it has licensed core technologies from Microsoft Corporation that are included in Symantec C++ Professional, a new 32-bit C++ development system. These technologies include Win32s support and Microsoft Foundation Class Libraries (MFC) 2.0.
Symantec C++ Professional 6.0 is the only development system that lets developers build Win32s applications from within Windows. The inclusion of MFC 2.0 allows programmers to take advantage of reusable C++ components to develop Windows-based applications. Symantec C++ 6.0 is also highly compatible with Microsoft's Languages and Operating Systems at source, object file, DLL and debug levels.
"Symantec is the first member of the Windows Partners Program. We are pleased to see them making it easier for developers to program Win32s and Windows NT applications," said Jon Lazaras, Microsoft's vice president of systems strategy. "By allowing programmers to target these platforms from their existing Windows system configurations, Symantec has made it easier for developers to make the move to 32-bit applications."
"We're excited to be working closely with Microsoft," said Gene Wang, Symantec's executive vice president of applications and development tools. "Symantec C++ offers the power of 32-bit integrated development and debugging combined with Microsoft's state-of-the-art Windows technologies to provide the best solution to corporate and commercial software programmers making the move from 16- to 32-bit applications."
Symantec Corporation develops, markets and supports a complete line of application and system software products for IBM personal computers, IBM compatible PCs and Apple Macintosh computers.
