break any Foothill League records Thursday. The Hart High junior didn't win any league titles either.

But when it came time for the league's coaches to select the female swimmer of the meet at the league finals, it came as no surprise that Rogers' name was mentioned as a possible candidate.

Although Canyon's Roxy Camuso wound up receiving the award after winning the 100- and 200-yard freestyles -- giving her seven individual titles in her four-year career -- and anchoring the Cowboys' 200 free relay to victory, it was Rogers who captured the hearts of the swimmers, coaches and spectators at the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. ``What she did was incredible,'' Hart boys' coach Steve Neale said.

``Everybody on our team drew strength from her and, in turn, she drew strength from them. It was amazing a·maze

For the Indians' coaches and swimmers, the news of Debbi Rogers' death came less than a week after racial tension led to rioting on the Hart campus. Although Neale celebrated his team winning its 10th consecutive league title, he and Indians' girls' coach Gina McCarthy were emotionally spent at the meet's conclusion.

``With all of the stuff these kids have had to deal with, I'm so proud of them,'' said McCarthy, whose team rebounded from a 91-79 dual-meet loss to Valencia to share the championship after outscoring the Vikings by 35 points at the finals.

``They are so tough, it's unbelievable.''

Rogers finished third behind Camuso and Canyon freshman Milena Lopez in the 200 free. She was runner-up to the UNLV-bound Camuso in the 100 free, recording a Southern Section Div. I automatic qualifying mark of 55.03.

``I think anyone who knew Molly's mom knows that she would have wanted Molly to swim,'' McCarthy said. ``She did a great job.''

Saugus' Ryan Kristensen lowered his own school record in the 50 free, clocking an area-leading 21.68 seconds, giving him three of the program's four freestyle The code name for the MCE version of Windows. See Media Center Edition.  records, along with the 100 and 200.

``He's on fire right now,'' said Saugus coach Jim Klipfel of Kristensen, who later finished third in the 500 free (4:55.55). ``But the best thing about Ryan is he's a humble Humble may refer to:

Burbank then broke its school record in the 200 free relay, relying on a 21.86 anchor-leg split from Julian Miranda to win in 1:30.85, less than four-tenths off Hart's 1998 record (1:30.48).

Canyon freshman Chelsea Griffiths was the first to set a league record, winning the 100 backstroke in 59.53, breaking a 10-year-old record held by Saugus' Heather Boylan.

Hart freshman Jordan Danny then followed Griffiths' lead by breaking the record of another former Saugus standout, lowering Lizette Patterson's mark in the 100 breaststroke by winning in 1:06.85.

Kasey Hartsock, Megan Machynia, Kaitlyn Salovich and Michelle Kroll exceeded Saugus' 2004 record by 0.11 to win in 3:45.08.

Garrett Nugent followed that effort by recording a 46.88 anchor-leg split to rally the Vikings' quartet -- which included Stephen Roongsathapaul, Kaleb Jenkins and John Pedrini -- past Burbank to finish in 3:18.67.

``We debated to even put the boys on that relay, but it really paid off,'' Valencia coach Kathleen Perdisatt said. ``They were all phenomenal.''
