Little did Henderson know, the result of the Foothill League showdown between the upstart Vikings and defending champion defending champion n (SPORT) → defensor/a m/f del título defending champion n (Sport) → champion(ne) en titre Saugus had been decided almost an hour earlier. Behind two victories from Kroll, one each from Jasmine jasmine (jăs`mĭn, jăz–) or jessamine (jĕs`əmĭn), any plant of the genus Jasminum of the family Oleaceae (olive family). Henderson, Stephanie Henderson and Sara Peever, and a sweep of all three relays, the Vikings posted a convincing 115-55 victory in girls' swimming at the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, Aquatic Center. In doing so, Valencia served notice across the 16-lane pool to Hart - which was swimming against Canyon - that it is a legitimate threat to challenge for the league championship. ``It's unbelievable,'' said Kroll, who won the 100 freestyle in 55.15 seconds, the 200 freestyle in 1:56.71 and contributed to victories in the 200 medley med·ley n. pl. med·leys 1. An often jumbled assortment; a mixture: "That night he dreamed he was traveling in a foreign country, only it seemed to be a medley of all the countries he'd ever been to and and 400 freestyle relays. ``Our team wanted this so bad, and everyone's real excited.'' Said Henderson, who won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.32: ``Sixty points? Oh my God. I didn't know (what the score was) at all. Everyone just came together and did their thing, and we had fun doing it.'' After telling her swimmers the results at all four levels - Valencia swept, including a 112-58 victory in the boys' varsity competition - Vikings coach Kathleen Perdisatt shared an emotional moment with family members and boys' coach Eric Pritchett. She finally realized the magnitude of what her girls' team had accomplished. ``This team did the impossible, and they did it with flying colors Noun 1. flying colors - complete success; "they passed inspection with flying colors" flying colours success - an attainment that is successful; "his success in the marathon was unexpected"; "his new play was a great success" ,'' said Perdisatt, whose team improved to 7-0, 2-0 in league meets, setting up a potential showdown with Hart (4-0, 2-0) for the league's dual-meet title April 20 at the Aquatic Center. ``This just isn't about this year. This is about five years' worth of work. I can't even tell you proud I am of this team. ``This is the first year they understood they were capable of doing this, and they went out and proved it (Wednesday). I'm very surprised by the outcome because I thought it would be close.'' Valencia built a 26-point lead after a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 freestyle, led by Peever's victory in 26.3 seconds. The Vikings also swept in the 100 freestyle, offsetting victories by Saugus' Lizette Patterson in the 200 individual medley (2:13.07) and 500 freestyle (5:27.29) and Melissa Bowers' win in the 100 butterfly butterfly, any of a large group of insects found throughout most of the world; with the moths, they comprise the order Lepidoptera. (1:03.41). ``Their horses came out fired up, and they did a great job,'' said Saugus coach Jim Klipfel, whose team (1-1 in league) captured the regular-season and league finals titles last season. ``They've got great swimmers, and they've got depth. And I just congratulated two fantastic coaches who did a tremendous job.'' The Saugus boys' team (0-2 in league), competing without sophomore John Criste, received two victories from Kyle <noinclude></noinclude> ''This article or section is being rewritten at One derivation of the surname is from the Scottish Highland word caol, 'channel', or 'strait'. Without Criste, who has been competing in the World Championship Trials in Indianapolis since Friday, the Centurions couldn't match Valencia's depth, which contributed to victories in all three relays. The Vikings (5-2, 2-0) also received two victories from Garrett Nugent (100 butterfly, 200 individual medley) and John Pedrini (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke). --Hart sweeps Canyon: The Hart boys' team rebounded from its first loss of the season Tuesday to defeat Canyon 125-45 at the Aquatic Center.
