SWIMMING: HWANG HELPS LIFT CANYONS AQUATICS.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- It is only fitting that Valencia High freshman Bob Hwang would swim the anchor leg of the final event -- the 13- to 14-year-old boys' 800-meter freestyle relay -- at the 2006 Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Swimming Junior Olympics.

Hwang, who entered the final day of competition an area-best five individual victories, contributed to five more first-place finishes Noun 1. first-place finish - a finish in first place (as in a race)
win - a victory (as in a race or other competition); "he was happy to get the win"
 in relay events Sunday afternoon for the Santa Clarita Valley-based Canyons Aquatics swim team at Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

Hwang's teammates in all five events were Chris Weber Chris Weber is a rock musician born in Los Angeles, California on October 16, 1966. He was a founding member of Hollywood Rose along with Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin. Rose and Stradlin would later form Guns N' Roses. , Harris Nui, and Antoniak Konrad.

That group won the 800 freestyle finale with a time of 8 minutes, 33.90 seconds, as well as the 200 freestyle (1:44.54), 400 medley (4:18.90), 200 medley (1:56.96), and the 400 freestyle (3:49.99).

The team's performance in the 200 freestyle broke a Southern California sectional age-group record by nearly two-tenths of a second. The previous record (1:44.72) was set by a Mission Viejo Mission Vi·e·jo

In other events: Canyon Aquatics' girls' 11- to 12-year-old relay team of Allison Morales, Ardia Morales, Morgan Thibault and Kirsten Justice took first in the 400 freestyle (4:21.5) and the 200 freestyle (2:00.97). Suman Kumar replaced Thibault in the 400 medley, and the team took first in the event with a clocking of 2:07.02.

The Canyon Aquatics boys' 15-year-old and over team of Ryan Kristensen, Michael Chiu, John Pedrini, and Garrett Nugent took first place in the 400 freestyle (4:08.39) and the 200 medley (1:52.35).

The same age group also took first in the 200 freestyle (1:41.34) with Justin Wellins replacing Pedrini.
