Byline: GIDEON RUBIN

Staff Writer

MOJAVE -- A Kern County Sheriff Department's SWAT team arrested a heavily armed Mojave man holed up in his home who'd reportedly threatened to kill himself and any law enforcement officials who got in his way, officials said Thursday.

Ronald Scott Hicks Hicks   , Edward 1780-1849.

American painter of primitive works, notably The Peaceable Kingdom, of which nearly 100 versions exist.
, 49, was arrested in his Edwin Street residence Tuesday night on suspicion of multiple felonies, sheriff's deputies said.

Authorities say Hicks' live-in girlfriend told them he'd assaulted her and fired a rifle in their home last week.

Hicks' girlfriend contacted sheriff's deputies on Tuesday after an argument during which Hicks threatened to kill himself and said he was going to "kill the cops when they got here," sheriff's Sgt. Ed Komin said.

Sheriff's deputies found three firearms in the home including a high- powered Mauser rifle, Komin said.

A SWAT team deployed a chemical agent that induced Hicks' surrender.
