SUZY in the CITY IN DUBLIN: Bid to take the biscuit.

Byline: SUZY JAGGER

A PRIVATE equity group is readying itself to snap up Jacobs, Ireland's best-known biscuit company.

The French food and dairy company Groupe Danone signalled some time ago that it was preparing to unload Irish Biscuits, the Tallaght, Dublin-based, operating arm of Jacobs, after nine years of ownership.

The deal could involve an outlay of IRpounds 130 million by the would-be acquisitors, reportedly Hicks, Muse, Tate and Furst.

The move is a significant one for Irish biscuit consumers as about 65 per cent of Jacobs' products are consumed here, although the company also has a base in the United Kingdom.
