SUZANNE SOMERS SET TO HOST NEW TALK ENTERTAINMENT SERIES FOR MCA TV

Premiering in Fall 1994, `The Suzanne Somers Show' Will be a One-Hour,
Daytime Strip Offering an Upbeat Look at Today's Issues
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Suzanne Somers, whose millions of fans have embraced her work as a successful television personality, award-winning stage performer and best-selling author, has signed an agreement with MCA TV to host her own daytime talk entertainment series, "The Suzanne Somers Show," it was jointly announced today by MCA TV President Shelly Schwab and MCA-Universal Television Executive Vice President Ned Nalle. The daily one-hour show will be upbeat and issue- oriented, featuring an exciting mix of interviews with guests from all walks of life, as well as live entertainment.

Slated to premiere in national syndication in fall 1994, the program is a Suzanne Somers/Alan Hamel Production, executive produced by Suzanne Somers, Chris Bearde and Alan Hamel, and will be exclusively distributed worldwide by MCA TV.
"The Suzanne Somers Show" will be a multifaceted alternative talk/entertainment series, with each show presenting an issue around which Somers will build her talk and entertainment segments. She will lead experts and other specially selected guests and celebrities in conversations aimed at providing helpful information and possible solutions to the daily concerns being discussed. Somers herself will perform frequently, backed up by a live band.
"In a television marketplace glutted with aggressive, exploitative daytime talk shows, it is refreshing to be able to offer alternative programming which presents today's issues in a positive and pro-social way," said Schwab.
Nalle added, "She has tremendous talent and remarkable audience identifiability. We feel viewers who are disaffected this season by the proliferation of `unknowns' in the talk show field will find great comfort spending an hour daily with Suzanne."
"Hosting a meaningful talk show is something I have always wanted to do," Somers commented. "In my own personal life, I have been incredibly fortunate in many ways, but I've also had to deal with serious problems, which others find themselves facing every day. I'm thrilled to be a part of a show which will address these important concerns and be entertaining at the same time."
Somers, who will continue to star in the current highly rated ABC primetime series "Step By Step," began her acting career with a guest- starring appearance on the TV series "Lassie," and in roles in the feature films "Bullitt" and "American Graffiti." From 1977-1981, she gained enormous popularity for her role as Chrissy on the ABC network hit sitcom "Three's Company," which also enjoyed a successful post- network syndication run. She later triumphed with her portrayal of a sexy but ruthless screen siren in the 1986 hit mini-series "Hollywood Wives." Her additional TV credits include the movies "Keeping Secrets," for which she played herself from college years to present time and also made her executive producing debut, as well as this past season's "Exclusive" for ABC.
An accomplished stage performer, Somers garnered rave notices when she appeared in the Moulin Rouge Revue at the Las Vegas Hilton, a stint which earned her the 1986 Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year Award. She currently entertains regularly at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
Somers has gained equal attention for her work outside of film, TV and stage. Her 1988 autobiography, "Keeping Secrets," revealed the traumas she faced growing up with an abusive alcoholic father and the effect it had on her life although she, herself, did not drink. "Wednesday's Child," her third book, offers interviews with many well- known persons who were victims of abuse.
The founder of Suzanne Somers Institute .. For the Effects of Addictions on Families, Somers has been given the President's Award from the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, served for two terms as the chairperson of the National Association of the Children of Alcoholics and was honored by the National Mother's Day Committee in the New York City as Mother of the Year. In 1991, she testified before a U.S. Senate committee on the subject of family addictions.
