SUV THEFT CHARGE FILED SCV WOMAN ACCUSED OF HEIST IN CARWASH.

NEWHALL - A woman accused of stealing a new SUV from a carwash and leaving an older one in its place was charged Tuesday with grand theft auto.

Christine Henry, 35, did not enter a plea during a hearing at the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  branch of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Superior Court. She remained in custody in lieu of $30,000 bail, with her next court appearance scheduled for Aug. 12.

The temporary registration had been removed from the windshield and the odometer odometer (ōdŏm`ĭtər), instrument provided in an automotive vehicle to indicate the total number of miles that have been traveled.  had climbed by more than 100 miles.

Henry could face up to three years in prison if she is convicted.
