The Miata driver, 58-year-old William Richards of Palmdale, was treated at Antelope Valley Hospital and sent home. The 4Runner's occupants, 25-year-old Lachondra Cooper of Palmdale and her daughter, were not injured, Moya said.

The wreck, which happened about 8:15 a.m. north of Rancho Vista Boulevard, tied up traffic on the Antelope Valley Freeway for more than three hours.

Monday's storm dropped 0.2 inches of rain by early afternoon in Palmdale, bringing to 7.95 inches the season total since October. The average total by this time is 7.01 inches.

National Weather Service forecasters said the rain would halt today, with partly cloudy skies and afternoon high temperatures up to about 60 degrees. A chance of showers is expected to return Thursday through Friday, with partly cloudy skies Saturday and mostly clear weather Sunday.
