Hopkins chased the Nissan through Reseda to the intersection of Zelzah Avenue and Saticoy Street.

``At one point (the driver) tried to make a U-turn and couldn't do it but almost ran over the officer,'' Pasquariello said. ``And at least twice (the driver) braked heavily, trying to induce the officer to run into the car.''

The chase ended in the Zelzah Avenue intersection after the car tried to make another U-turn, hit a telephone pole, then tried to reverse the car over the officer again, Pasquariello said.

Diana Cooper and her 8-year-old daughter, Kellee Gomez, were sitting in their living room when they heard the car and the motorcycle siren, then gunshots in the intersection right outside their front door.
