Investigators said the man tried to run down Hopkins after he tried to stop a red 1990 Nissan Sentra for speeding near the intersection of Louise Avenue and Sherman Way. ``As soon as the officer got off of his motorcycle, the suspect accelerated the car,'' said police spokesman Sgt. The chase ended in the Zelzah Avenue intersection after the car tried to make another U-turn, hit a telephone pole, then tried to reverse the car over the officer again, Pasquariello said.
