SUSPECT KILLED IN CRASH AFTER EARLY-MORNING CHASE.Byline: Jason Kandel Staff Writer RESEDA - A man who stole a cash register from a convenience store died in a head-on crash Friday as he was fleeing police along Victory Boulevard, police said. The 4:45 a.m. crash sent an unidentified woman to the hospital with a broken collar bone. The 36-year-old Sun Valley man, whom police did not identify, crashed his gray Datsun pickup into the woman's Nissan Altima on Victory Boulevard, just west of Lindley Avenue. He died at Northridge Hospital Medical Center shortly after the crash, said LAPD Officer Lucy Diaz. The pursuit began after police say they spotted the man loading a cash register from a convenience store into a gray Datsun pickup. He fled in the truck with headlights off, crossing into opposing lanes of traffic at speeds up to 65 mph before the crash. Detectives spent several hours investigating the scene and closed off Victory Boulevard until about 2 p.m. Friday, police said. The injured woman's condition was not available.
