SUSPECT IN FATAL HIT-AND-RUN NAMED.

Byline: Lisa Van Proyen Staff Writer

Police on Saturday identified a hit-and-run drunk-driving suspect who ran a red light and rammed into two cars a day earlier, killing a 33-year- old Canoga Park woman and injuring her husband and one of their children.

The suspect, identified as Valentin Ayala, 29, was booked on suspicion of murder, said Officer Guillermo Campos Campos (käm`ps), city (1996 pop. 391,299), Rio de Janeiro state, SE Brazil, on the Paraíba River near its mouth. , a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department "LAPD" and "L.A.P.D." redirect here. Shortly after the 7:45 p.m. crash on Friday, Ayala called his wife, who went to the scene of the collision, where police got a description of her husband, Campos said. Police arrested Ayala a few blocks away.

The suspect admitted that he had been drinking a large number of beers, and he had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 - more than twice the 0.08 legal limit, Campos said.

Police said the man was booked for murder, a determination made after authorities found that he had been booked once before for DUI and was on probation.

``He was in the process of taking court-appointed classes,'' Campos said.
