LANCASTER - Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  instructor Lee Bergthold will conduct a survival backpacking backpacking

Sport of hiking while carrying clothing, food, and camping equipment in a pack on the back. In the early 20th century backpacking was primarily a means of getting to wilderness areas inaccessible by car or by day hike.
 seminar from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the college.

The cost of the seminar is $45, plus a $5 materials fee. It is sponsored by the college's Community Education program.

The seminar will be in the college board room, which is Room 151 in the Student Services building at the campus, 3041 W. Ave. K.

People interested in general backpacking or mountaineering mountaineering

People will learn about basics of gear and equipment, medical problems, animals, weather, safety, isolation, morale, food preparation, water sources, fitness and more. The seminar is open to people of all ages, from novices to experienced backpackers.

Bergthold is a former Marine Corps survival instructor who has been involved with outdoor survival techniques for 45 years. He is founder and director of the Center for Wilderness Studies and past director for special outdoor projects with the Los Angeles County Probation Department The Los Angeles County Probation Department provides services for those placed on probation within Los Angeles County, California, USA. Robert Taylor is the current Chief Probation Officer. The department is the largest probation department in the world[1]. .

Attendees should bring a notepad The text editor that comes with Windows. It is a very elementary utility, but gets the job done most of the time. See text editor and WordPad.
