SURVEY CITES TRAFFIC PROBLEMS, NEED TO PRESERVE OPEN SPACE.

A survey by the Las Virgenes/Malibu Council of Governments shows residents believe the area has enough homes, too much traffic and would benefit from preserving open space.

The survey results will be released at workshops scheduled for Monday and Tuesday to get more input from residents and business owners on the survey's findings.

``We view this information - and the comments we receive at the two public workshops - as a valuable planning resource as we work as a Council of Governments on common priorities,'' said Jeff Jeffings, president of the Council of Governments and a Malibu City Councilman.

The Las Virgenes/Malibu Council of Governments commissioned the survey in response to concerns over growth projections for the area.

The telephone survey of 500 registered voters was funded by the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Association of Governments and revealed that residents in the five cities consider planning, growth, open space, traffic and schools as the top issues.

The public workshops are scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Agoura Hills-Calabasas Community Center, 27040 Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Malibu City Hall, 23815 Stuart Ranch ranch, large farm devoted chiefly to raising and breeding cattle, horses, sheep, and goats.
