The Milwaukee Brewers might try petitioning to have the Jewish calendar changed so that Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, is a three-day observation that begins today. It'll mean Shawn Green will probably sit out. (Hey, it's worth a try.) Baseball: Milwaukee at Dodgers, Channel 13, 1 p.m.; Florida at N.Y. TUESDAY

The Lakers are forced to stay at the Sacramento Hyatt again tonight because they have a contract. No one is under any obligation to order room service, though. NBA Western Conference finals: Lakers at Sacramento Game 5, Channel 4, 6 p.m. (If necessary, NBC has Game 6 Friday at 6 or 6:30 p.m. and Game 7 Sunday at 4:30 or 5 p.m.) Baseball: Angels at Kansas City, Channel 9, 5 p.m. NHL Eastern Conference finals: Carolina at Toronto Game 6, ESPN, 4 p.m. (ESPN has Game 7 Thursday at 4 p.m.)

WEDNESDAY

Phil Sims will co-host CBS' coverage of the Miss Universe pageant tonight with Daisy Fuentes. This does not count as a sporting event. Although the Celtics-Nets series so far has been out of this world. NBA Eastern Conference finals: Boston at New Jersey Game 5, Channel 4, 6 p.m. (If necessary, NBC has Game 6 Friday at 4 or 6 p.m. and Game 7 Sunday at 2:30 or 4:30 p.m.) Baseball: St. Louis at Houston, ESPN2, 4 p.m.; Arizona at San Francisco, ESPN2, 7 p.m.

THURSDAY

Ninth year now that ESPN has decided to drop in on the National Spelling Bee and present it as a sports event. Can you spell ``exploitation?'' National Spelling Bee, ESPN, 7-9 a.m. and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (re-airs on ESPN2 at 6 p.m.) Baseball: Angels at Minnesota, Channel 9, 5 p.m. (Channel 9 has the rest of the weekend series through Sunday)

FRIDAY

Trying to contain an outbreak of a foot-and-mouth disease, South Korea is asking World Cup teams and visitors to refrain from bringing meat products into the country. Saturday, the Turkish team's entry was delayed because its luggage included 374 pounds of cheese, one quarantine official said. The team was allowed to bring in the cheese only after it submitted a certificate saying the dairy product was treated by heat. So while you're enjoying that ham and cheese sandwich at 4 in the morning, be glad you're here and not there. The America's first appearance in the big kickball tournament isn't until next week, but here's the opener, featuring defending champion France. World Cup: France vs. Senegal, ESPN2, 4:25 a.m. Baseball: Arizona at Dodgers, Fox Sports Net 2, 7 p.m. (Channel 13 has Saturday's game at 7 p.m. and Sunday's game at 1 p.m.)

SATURDAY

Some have noted that Evander Holyfield, coming up on his 40th birthday, has grown increasingly slurred in speech, he seems more fuzzy in his thoughts and his best days are behind him. But all things are possible if you believe in a higher power, he insists. Pray that he makes it through this bout against Hasim Rahman in one piece. ``I don't mean to belittle religion,'' says Showtime boxing analyst Bobby Czyz, who once lost to Holyfield, ``but some religious people need to get a grip on things. I don't think God helps anyone in the ring.'' The NBA Finals could begin today if the two conference championships are decided by Wednesday, but that's kind of unlikely. There could also be two Game 7's today. Otherwise, bank on an emotional moment from CBS' coverage of the PGA's Kemper Open, where analyst Ken Venturi does the last event of his 35-year broadcasting career.
