That makes the urban dump more of a risk than usually understood,'' said Bill Corcoran, senior regional representative of the Sierra Club Sierra Club, national organization in the United States dedicated to the preservation and expansion of the world's parks, wildlife, and wilderness areas. Founded (1892) in California by a group led by the Scottish-American conservationist John Muir, the Sierra Club , which is working with the North Valley Coalition, Teamsters union Teamsters Union, U.S. labor union formed in 1903 by the amalgamation of the Team Drivers International Union and the Teamsters National Union. Its full name is the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers of America (IBT). and other environmental groups to oppose the current BFI proposal. Sunshine Canyon Landfill can currently accept up to 12,100 tons of trash per day and that limit will stay the same if the two dumps are combined. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office announced in November he was opposing the permit because he didn't want to lose any authority over the Sunshine Canyon Landfill. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San , whose district includes Sunshine Canyon, has previously voted against expansions of the dump.
