``There's no way of being sure, but we're expecting - hoping for - about 300,000 people a day. The Thunderbirds are definitely a draw,'' Lt. Dan Bernath said at the base. ``That's in addition to the 100th anniversary of powered flight, the record attempts by the B-1B and the performance by the F/A-22. There are a lot of things that will bring people out.''

Edwards' gates will open at 7 a.m., flight demonstrations will begin at 9 a.m. and flying will continue until 4:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. To reach the base, go north on the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. A second entrance is off Highway 58 east of Mojave.

An F/A-22 Raptor, the Air Force's newest fighter that is undergoing tests at Edwards, will be making its first flight demonstration at a public air show, although a Raptor was briefly seen at Edwards' 1999 air show.

The Thunderbirds are back performing after a crash during an Idaho air show in September destroyed a jet. Shows are tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Air Force is arranging for cockpit video to be displayed on two Jumbotron screens set up on the flight line.

On both days, a B-1B from Edwards' 419th Flight Test Squadron will attempt to set several world speed records. The records will be for different weights carried over three separate courses - 100 kilometers or about 62 miles, 500 kilometers and 1,000 kilometers.

The Mach 2.2 bomber will make high-speed, low-level passes over the air show area to begin and end each record attempt. The bomber will release a load of 84 dummy bombs on one of Edwards' test ranges, visible to air show visitors.

Aircraft scheduled to be on display on the ground include the Global Hawk and Predator unmanned reconnaissance planes, the F-117 stealth fighter, CH-46 and CH-53 Marine Corps helicopters, Korean War-era MiG and F-86 jets and P-51 Mustang mustang [Sp. mesteño=a stray], small feral horse of the W United States.
