SEMINOLE, Fla., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior Surgical Mfg. Co., Inc. (AMEX: SGC), manufacturer of uniforms, career apparel and accessories, today announced that for the second quarter ended June 30, 1993, sales were $33,751,918 compared with 1992 second quarter sales of $32,840,528. Net income was $2,506,685 or $.29 per common share, compared with net income of $2,667,268 or $.31 per common share earned in the 1992 second quarter.
For the six months ended June 30, 1993, sales were $65,330,013 compared with sales of $63,016,858 in the six months ended June 30, 1992. Net income for the six month period was $4,971,757 or $.57 per common share, compared to net income of $4,705,120 or $.55 per common share reported in the first six months of 1992. (Per share figures for 1992 are adjusted for the four-for-one stock split in June 1992.)
Benstock, chairman and CEO, commented: "Operating in an unhealthy economy and in a very sluggish healthcare marketplace, due to the uncertainty relating to future government plans, impacted those sales. We feel fortunate to have had a sales increase in our other marketplaces which is attributable to gaining greater market share. We have been unable to raise prices due to weak economic conditions, as well as wide- spread competition. Costs, though contained, are constantly under pressure resulting in the inability to currently increase gross profits. We, nevertheless, still look forward to another very credible performance for our company in 1993."
Superior Surgical manufactures and sells a wide range of uniforms, career apparel and accessories for the hospital and healthcare fields; hotels; fast food and other restaurants; and public safety, industrial, transportation and commercial markets.
