SUNRISE ADDS VOIP TESTING TO GHEPARDO PROTOCOL ANALYZER.

Sunrise Telecom Incorporated (Nasdaq: SRTI), San Jose, Calif., a provider of service verification equipment for telecommunications and Internet networks, has announced the addition of VoIP testing capabilities to its Ghepardo Network Protocol Analyzer Servers. The Ghepardo family of products, from Sunrise Telecom's Pro.Tel Division S.r.L., now provides monitoring, simulation, diagnostic, and analysis features for VoIP equipment, services, and networks.

The integration of VoIP functions is a significant expansion of Ghepardo's industry-leading platform, making it the ideal testing solution for the new convergent networks. While most of the VoIP Analyzers available in the marketplace are focused on the LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  side only, Ghepardo simultaneously manages the LAN interfaces and the traditional PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S.  interfaces like E1, T1 and V.xx in an integrated, multi-user and multi-test environment. This is made possible by the full support of legacy signaling protocols such as SS#7, ISDN ISDN

GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations. , together with the emerging VoIP protocols.

VoIP support includes the most common protocol stacks used in the industry, such as ITU-T See ITU.

Ghepardo offers monitoring capabilities (such as protocol decoding); statistics; filters; and Quality of Service measurement, particularly useful for operators offering VoIP services to their customer base. Moreover, Ghepardo's call generation functions allow manufacturers to simulate network and node performance under specific situations, including heavy load conditions.

Ghepardo users can monitor networks and troubleshoot directly from any Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. . The Ghepardo Protocol Analyzer/Server is Web and server-based, allowing up to 32 users to monitor, share results of four concurrent tests, and conduct surveillance simultaneously from each Ghepardo -- with each user seeing a different view.

The Ghepardo hardware capability has also been enhanced with an optional Ethernet card interface. The LAN card supports not only 10 and 100 Mbps Ethernet, but Gigabit Ethernet as well. It has 1 MB RAM and two powerful RISC processors on board to boost the data capture and filters functions without affecting the overall performance of the system. VoIP functions are included in the 2.0 software release, scheduled for distribution during 1st Quarter 2001.

The products are designed to maximize technicians' effectiveness in the field and to provide realistic network simulations for equipment manufacturers to test their products. The company was founded in 1991 and is based in San Jose, CA. In February of 2000, Sunrise Telecom acquired Pro.Tel S.r.L., based in Modena, Italy, to develop and produce advanced testing systems for telecom protocols and multimedia services. Sunrise Telecom distributes its products through a network of sales representatives, distributors and a direct sales force throughout six continents.
