SUNGARD(R) DATA SYSTEMS INC. AND SUN DATA, INC. REACH AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE ON DISASTER RECOVERY ACQUISITION

 WAYNE, Pa., and ATLANTA, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- SunGard Data Systems Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: SNDT) and Sun Data, Inc. today jointly announced that SunGard's subsidiary SunGard Recovery Services Inc. has entered into an agreement in principle to acquire the disaster recovery business of Sun Data, Inc.
 The proposed transaction, which is scheduled to close in the third quarter of 1993, is subject to the approval of SunGard's board of directors and execution of a definitive agreement by both parties. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. SunGard representatives stated that the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on the company's financial results for 1993.
 Sun Data is the leading provider of comprehensive disaster recovery services for IBM AS/400 computers to customers throughout the United States. John Crilly, president and chief executive officer of Sun Data, stated, "Sun Data has had a business relationship with SunGard since 1990. We are confident that our customers will continue to receive the highest level of service in the industry." The facilities and employees of Sun Data's disaster recovery business will be incorporated into SunGard's facilities.
 James L. Mann, SunGard Data Systems' chairman, president and chief executive officer, said of the acquisition, "This is the third strategic acquisition we have made this year in our disaster recovery business. We will continue to pursue all opportunities to promote growth and profitability. We are continuing to demonstrate our commitment to all levels of the disaster recovery business."
 Sun Data is a privately held company based in Atlanta that, in addition to specializing in midrange disaster recovery services, also specializes in providing new and pre-owned IBM midrange equipment, IBM plug-compatible equipment, lease financing, communications and systems integration services and engineering support.
 SunGard Data Systems Inc.'s business is computer service and application software. The company is the pioneer and leading provider of comprehensive computer disaster recovery services and is the only large specialized provider of proprietary investment support systems to the financial services industry.
