 SUNBANK AND FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF VENICE UNITE
 ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- SunBanks Inc., the Orlando


based holding company, announced it has completed the acquisition of Florida West Coast Banks Inc. which owns and operates The First National Bank of Venice.
 The First National Bank of Venice will become the 22nd subsidiary bank of SunBanks and will continue to operate under the same name with no management changes. Hans Tews, chairman and CEO of SunBank/Sarasota County, N.A., will join the board of directors of The First National Bank of Venice. Merle L. Graser, chairman and chief executive officer of The First National Bank of Venice, will join the board of directors of SunBank/Sarasota County, N.A. Paul A. Dent will continue as president of The First National Bank of Venice.
 Wendell H. Colson, president of SunBanks, stated, "We are pleased that the shareholders of Florida West Coast Banks Inc. have voted to join forces with SunBank and SunTrust. With a strong local management team, headed by Merle Graser and Hans Tews, we are excited about the future prospects in serving this important marketplace." The acquisition has been approved by the board of directors of SunTrust Banks Inc. and SunBanks, the shareholders of Florida West Coast Banks and Bank Regulatory Authorities.
 Florida West Coast Banks operates 10 offices in Sarasota and Charlotte counties and has over $390 million in assets. SunBanks operates 22 banks throughout the state of Florida, with over 345 offices and $18.2 billion in assets. SunBanks is a subsidiary of SunTrust Banks in Atlanta with $34 billion in assets and more than 610 offices in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
