Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA[3]) is an American vendor of computers, computer components, computer software, and information-technology services, founded on 24 February 1982.  said it is merging its microelectronics and computer systems unit under the direction of John Shoemaker John Shoemaker (born August 18 1956 in Chillicothe, OH USA) is a former minor league baseball player and current manager of the Double-A Jacksonville Suns.

Shoemaker attended Waverly High School and Miami University before he was drafted in the 35th round of the 1977 MLB
, who was head of Sun's enterprise desktop and server business.

Sun, Palo Alto, Calif. also folded its worldwide sales operation into a global sales unit under the leadership of Masood Jabbar, a former head of the computer systems group, and created a new customer advocacy unit to respond "to customer demands for quality, availability and uptime," the company said.

Sun chief executive Scott McNealy "remains upbeat on Sun's prospects, believing that the company still has open-field running the next few years," said Merrill Lynch analyst Steve Milunovich in a research report.
