SUMMERWIND TO HOLD VALENTINE'S DAY DANCE.

Lovers' holiday celebrated on February 14, the feast day of St. Valentine, one of two 3rd-century Roman martyrs of the same name. St.
 dance for parents and other adults from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 10 in the campus auditorium at 39060 Summerwind Drive.

The event, slated as one of numerous fund-raisers for the fifth-grade science camp, is also intended as a goodwill gesture and "thank you" to Summerwind families and the public for their continued support, Principal Mike Ohren said.

"We try to do things enjoyable for the community - where people won't just want to grab a beef stick and hide in the closet," Ohren said.

Tickets, available at the door or in advance by dropping by the school office, are $10 a couple or $5 for singles.

Ohren encourages dancegoers to buy tickets early so refreshment coordinators know about how many people to expect.

Snacks such as cake and cookies and beverages such as coffee, punch and hot chocolate will be served, Ohren said.

 "Dave the Wave" Garay will provide music for the dance, he said.

The event, previously scheduled to be held at the Palmdale Senior Citizen Center, will now be at the National Guard Armory at 38315 30th St. E. from 7 to 11 p.m., booster President Dan Lintemoot said.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and participants must be 18 or over to attend.

LANCASTER - Westside Union School District officials are seeking parents and local community members interested in serving on several committees.

Committees now being formed include housing/facilities, which will examine districtwide classroom space and personnel needs; safety; alternative education, which will examine options for middle school students unsuccessful in the regular program; school calendar; and a fiscal committee, which will examine and discuss data about budget developments, administrative secretary Suzanne Banks said.

All committees will begin meeting soon on a regular basis at times and dates yet to be determined, but volunteers should expect to commit to about six hours each month to the effort, Banks said.

The district encompasses nine schools, including Joe Walker and Hillview middle schools Hillview Middle School is a public middle school in Menlo Park, California, part of the Menlo Park City School District. It is notable as having been named a California Distinguished School seven times. , housing sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, the kindergarten through eighth-grade Del Sur School and seven kindergarten through fifth-grade campuses, Banks said.
