SULCUS COMPUTER RECEIVES CONTRACT TO AUTOMATE FLAGSHIP HOTEL
GREENSBURG, Pa., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Sulcus Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: SULC), through its Sulcus Hospitality Group, announced today that it has signed a central agreement with International Hoteliers Limited ("IHL"), to install the full range of Sulcus hospitality software programs, including six of Sulcus' local and worldwide interfaces, at their flagship five-star Park Lane Hotel in Hong Kong, entirely replacing the eight year old system now in use at the 818-room hotel. Headquartered in Hong Kong, IHL is the parent company of the Park Lane Hotel chain, whose five-star properties are located in key metropolitan business centers throughout the world. The Hong Kong headquarters city installation will be the fifth and central member of the Park Lane chain to order Sulcus automation systems, bringing to more than 3,000 the number of Park Lane Hotel rooms committed to utilizing Sulcus hospitality software.
Included in the installation are programs to automate the front desk, reservations, guest charges and billing, sales and catering and back office in addition to the six interfaces. Sulcus is the only worldwide developer whose software runs on both UNIX and DOS operating systems and in eight different languages.
Jeffrey S. Ratner, Sulcus chairman and chief executive officer, said that "China, through Hong Kong, accelerates as a world wide business and trading community in 1997, when Hong Kong reverts to China. With business between China and the world community expected to expand dramatically at that time, Asian hotels are upgrading their facilities to handle a greater flow of visitors more expeditiously, and modernizing their automation facilities to more sophisticated systems designed to communicate in multiple languages and interface to other tourism partners such as governments, airlines, steamships and other reservation sources, and as a result Sulcus is witnessing rapid growth in this marketplace."
Ratner also noted that "the Park Lane is one of the most prestigious hotels in Hong Kong and IHL is acknowledged throughout the world as one of the best managed and most advanced hotel chains. The willingness of a five-star hotel, already acknowledged as a premier institution in its marketplace, to entirely refit the facility with a total range of Sulcus products, is one indication of the increasing recognition being received by Sulcus' Lodgistix/HMS System, and points to a marketplace for our software that incorporates not only first time installations but replacement of less technologically advanced software."
Sulcus Computer Corporation is a leading developer of automated systems for the hospitality, legal and real estate markets. Sulcus Hospitality systems are in operation in 3700 hotels with 600,000 rooms and 1,800 fine dining establishments. Customers include such names as Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott, Radisson, Embassy Suites, Nikko, Chi-Chi's, Marie Calandars, Holiday Inn, Four Seasons, Canadian Pacific, Clubhouse Inns, Regent and Novatel.
