Family members, friends and classmates filled the Mission Hills mortuary Monday evening for an open casket viewing of Geraldo Lopez Jr., who cited the Colorado massacre in his suicide note A suicide note is a message left by someone who later attempts or commits suicide. It is estimated that 12-20% of suicides are accompanied by a note.[1] However, incidence rates may depend on race, method of suicide, and cultural differences and may reach rates as high .

``He was my best friend since third grade,'' said Alex Ramirez, 19, of Mission Hills. ``He made people laugh. Even though other people made fun of him, he didn't put them down. Those people now regret what they did.''

Crisis counselors at the high school have been working with students since last Wednesday.

Lopez had left a note beginning with his thoughts about the Colorado shooting, his family said. Some family members don't believe the Colorado shootings prompted his suicide, but his sister, Claudia Lopez, said the shootings may have been the final push.

Similar to reports that classmates had teased the Colorado students, Ramirez said Lopez was teased and beaten. ``He did it because people made fun of him,'' Ramirez said.
