SUBWAY SUPERVISOR FACES CRIMINAL CHARGES IN DEATH.

Robert Carlysle Anderson, a 59-year-old Van Nuys resident, was charged with 10 misdemeanor violations of the state of California's labor code. If convicted, he faces up to six months in prison for each count and a total of $375,000 in fines, said Victoria Pipkin, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County District Attorney's Office.

A year ago Sunday, Jaime Pasillas, 52, became the first subway worker to die on the job. A chain holding a ``muck bucket'' broke, sending the bin crashing into Pasillas.

The filing against Anderson marks the first time anyone has been criminally charged in connection with the death of a subway worker in Los Angeles.

Anderson is an employee of Tutor-Saliba/Perini, a Sylmar-based contractor building the Hollywood Boulevard leg of the subway for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

 and California Occupational Health and Safety Administration officials confirmed they had been called to testify before the Los Angeles County grand jury regarding the investigation into Pasillas' death.

Pipkin said the charges against Anderson were filed by the District Attorney's Office and did not involve a grand jury indictment indictment (ĭndīt`mənt), in criminal law, formal written accusation naming specific persons and crimes. Persons suspected of crime may be rendered liable to trial by indictment, by presentment, or by information. . The charges against Anderson do not preclude pre·clude
