SUBSCRIBER Implements First Win-Based, Oracle Compatible Prepaid Solution For Wireless Providers; New Product Line is Deployed on Sun Solaris Enterprise Servers.

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 24, 1998--SUBSCRIBER, also known as Subscriber Computing, Inc. (SCI) has announced the availability of the industry's first Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) based prepaid billing solution, implemented using Oracle's(R) scaleable RDBMS technology on a Sun Solaris platform. According to SUBSCRIBER, a leading supplier of billing and real time systems for the wireless communications industry and member of the Oracle Alliance(SM), the second generation prepaid billing solution promises to be more cost-effective than any previously available in the market. SUBSCRIBER's first installation of the new system, which is being implemented for one of the largest wireless prepaid carriers in the world, is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 1998.

According to Andres Arteta, product director for SUBSCRIBER's new PrePay product line, SUBSCRIBER is addressing the emerging market for cellular prepay offerings with its WIN-based PrePay solution. The new system will give wireless service providers the ability, for the first time, to offer prepaid services to new subscriber markets without the need for expensive adjunct switching platforms or additional voice trunk resources.

"Our new PrePay solution functions as an SCP in the network, allowing real-time call control on a carrier's existing wireless switch without requiring an additional adjunct switching platform in the call path," said Arteta. "There are no T1/E1 trunks needed, only SS7/C7 data links."

Industry analysts predict that over 10 percent of US subscribers and 40 percent of European subscribers will use prepayment methods by the year 2002. In a May 1997 report, Boston-based Yankee group concluded that "real-time capabilities are critical to offering a profitable, sustainable prepaid wireless service."
