 to learn about heart operations and the latest surgery technology.

Medical industry professionals answered a range of questions from the elementary- and middle-school students, from what are the worst spinal injuries (those caused by snowboarding or being hit by a car) to what happens when a surgery fails (it has to be repeated).

Some students reacted in horror when, as they entered one operating room, they were greeted with a video of a heart surgery. But overall, they appeared to enjoy the tour.

``This is an opportunity for the kids to learn what happens behind these closed doors,'' said Scott Reiner, the hospital's CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. .

The operating rooms were also open to members of the public. Participants learned about how lasers are used to burn away cancerous tissue, how cameras at the end of a scoping device help in surgery and how ice is placed on a patient's heart to slow down its beating during surgery.

Emily Kim, 14, wants to be a doctor, a profession her parents want her to pursue, although several months ago she wanted to be a fashion designer.

``I want to be a doctor, but not like heart surgery and stuff, because I don't really like blood,'' said Emily, who is leaning toward pediatrics.
