But no decision was made.

``It boils down to looking at all of our options,'' Hart board President Patricia Hanrion said in a phone interview Thursday.

But Hanrion said since Castaic High School is not built yet, the board must think through any potential impacts at West Ranch. She's concerned that while temporary classrooms could be added, about 3,500 students would share existing common facilities such as the library, cafeteria and sports fields.

West Ranch, with a capacity for 2,600 students, will be packed with 500 extra bodies by next year, according to new district enrollment projections.

By the 2008-09 school year, the school would have 3,307 students and the following year, 3,550 -- almost 1,000 students more than it was built to hold.

Hart Chief Operations Officer Rob Gapper suggested that the district buy 11 portable classrooms and one portable restroom for next year, and 11 more classrooms for the 2008-09 school year.

``The staff feels that this option is the least disruptive to the education of the kids,'' Gapper said.

Gapper assured that Castaic High School's opening date is still on target for the 2010-11 school year. ``If it were delayed again, it would be a surprise.''
