HUNTINGTON BEACH Huntington Beach, city (1990 pop. 181,519), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast, across from Santa Catalina Island, in an oil-producing area; inc. 1909. It manufactures aerospace vehicles, aircraft parts, optical instruments, and heat transfer equipment.  - Mike Lambert and Karch Kiraly Charles Frederick Kiraly, better known as Karch Kiraly (born November 3, 1960 in Jackson, Michigan), is an American volleyball player who is the only person to have won Olympic gold medals in both the indoor and beach versions of the sport. , who reunited for this week's Huntington Beach Open after a five-event hiatus, looked Friday like the team that was selected the 2004 Association of Volleyball Professionals The AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) was founded in 1983 by Leonard Armato. The organization started its own American beach volleyball mens tour in 1984. By the late 80's, the tour was experiencing tremendous growth, in part through the promotion of the sport by  Team of the Year, not the one that failed to finish better than seventh in its first three events this season.

Lambert and Kiraly (UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
) went undefeated on the tournament's first day for the first time all season, finishing with a 17-21, 21-18, 19-17 victory over second-seeded Stein Metzger Stein Metzger (born November 17, 1972 in Honolulu, Hawaii) is a top beach volleyball player from the United States, playing in the AVP. In 2006 he played with his high school teammate, Mike Lambert, and they advanced to the Final Four in fourteen of the fifteen team events, winning  (UCLA) and Jake Gibb in the winners-bracket quarterfinals.

``It's an accomplishment any time you can play them tight, let alone beat them,'' Kiraly said. ``We're playing at a much higher level (this week).''

He and Lambert will face Larry Witt and Sean Rosenthal, who have finished third in their past two events, today in the winners-bracket semifinals. Top-seeded Dax Holdren and Jeff Nygaard (UCLA) will meet Todd Rogers and Sean Scott in the other winners-bracket semifinal.

The men's final will be held at 1 p.m.

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh cruised Friday, winning both of their matches in two games. Second-seeded Elaine Youngs and Rachel Wacholder, the only team to defeat May-Treanor and Walsh this season, were equally dominant, not allowing more than 14 points in a game during their two matches.

Former Harvard-Westlake of Studio City volleyball player Billy Strickland and partner Justin Phipps advanced through Thursday's qualifier to reach the main draw, and they took Metzger, a 2004 Olympian, and Gibb to three games in a 21-13, 25-27, 15-11 first-round loss.

Strickland and Phipps finished 25th after falling in their second match.

Phipps called winning one game against Metzger and Gibb, winners of three tournaments this season, ``ridiculous.'' Strickland called the match a confidence builder, especially after to Metzger and Gibb 21-7, 21-13 last month in Belmar, N.J.
