The event, scheduled for 2 to 10 p.m. Sept. 26, will feature street entertainers, music, crafts vendors and children's games. And with the fun, committee members anticipate that residents will get excited about changes coming to the downtown area, which could become the next village-style shopping draw. ``I think part of it is to bring folks to Newhall,'' said Glenn Adamick, associate planner for the city's community development department. ``We want them to have a good time down there, to feel safe down there and to come back.'' City leaders plan to create a district with cafes, boutiques and theaters, but the area is now lined with auto repair shops, food markets and video stores. Though committee members discussed several ideas, they decided to coordinate the event with the annual Heart of the West event in Hart Park and Media One's dance demonstration on the same day, Adamick said. ``We kind of kicked it into high gear,'' Adamick said. ``It logically worked out. With the events going on in Newhall that weekend, we really wanted to take advantage of that.'' Several other events may follow, including a farmers market, Frew said. Two streets will be partially shut down to allow visitors to wander around the free event, Adamick said.
