STRATEGIC ALLIANCE ANNOUNCED BY GENERAL COMPUTER AND IBAX HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS

 STRATEGIC ALLIANCE ANNOUNCED BY
GENERAL COMPUTER AND IBAX HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS
TWINSBURG, Ohio, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- General Computer Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS:GCCC) and IBAX Healthcare Systems today announced formation of a strategic alliance. IBAX is a partnership of IBM and Baxter subsidiaries.
Under the agreement, General Computer will market DOM/2 and make General Computer's PC-LINK software for electronic claims preparation and submission, on-line eligibility checking and related services available to physicians who use the IBAX Doctor's Office Manager (DOM/2). PC-LINK will work in conjunction with DOM/2 software.
"This alliance between IBAX and General Computer represents a significant step forward in helping physicians eliminate the costly and inefficient preparation of paper insurance claims," stated Richard R. Pilarczyk, president and chief executive officer of General Computer. "We are excited about this alliance because it will enable physicians using DOM/2 systems to meet the imminent requirements of the insurance industry. For example, HCFA has mandated that by 1995, a minimum of 75 percent of the Medicare claims filed by physicians must be filed electronically. We also believe it is inevitable that private and commercial carriers, as well as both state and federal programs, will require patient eligibility and benefit verification at the time the patient is in the physician's office. Some carriers will also demand adjudication of claims prior to rendering certain treatments or procedures," he said.
DOM/2 will use the PC-LINK software to accommodate the real-time transaction requirements as specified by individual carriers, both now and in the future as those requirements evolve," Pilarczyk explained. He added that, "Electronic linkages have already been proven to be an effective cost-containment tool. It is only a matter of time until patient referrals, on-line adjudication, real-time utilization and much more will be mandated."
To IBAX's Mike Cataldo, director of the Physician Series business unit, the alliance with General Computer adds significant value for both the IBAX physician office and hospital network customers. He said, "This relationship represents not only enhanced distribution capabilities for both companies, but also serves as an early example of IBAX's dedication to providing open systems and "best of breed" solutions for our customers. This goes beyond just the electronic submission of claims. It is the first of many steps to be taken in electronically tracking an entire continuum of care for a patient."
Added Pilarczyk, "Through the combined capabilities of IBAX and General Computer, we are confident that we will be in the vanguard of these developments."
IBAX Healthcare Systems is a partnership of IBM| and Baxter subsidiaries that develops and markets health care information solutions to a customer base of over 800 hospitals, 7,500 physician offices and 60 hospital physician networks. IBAX is the recognized market leader in physician practice management and hospital physician networks.
