STORMY WEATHER; TV WEATHERCASTERS TEST EL NINO-PROOF FASHIONS.

Byline: Barbara De Witt De Witt, uninc. town (1990 pop. 8,244), Onondaga co., central N.Y., a residential suburb of Syracuse.  Daily News Fashion Editor

Showers expected ... heavy rain by midnight.

What? You don't own a raincoat or galoshes?

With Southland storms raining all over L.A.'s spring fashion parade, those in the know are forecasting a flood of interest in rain gear.

``It's been a record year for raincoats and umbrellas,'' said Fred Bradford, manager of Burlington Coat Factory Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corporation is a national department store retailer focusing on clothing and shoes, with over 360 stores in 42 states (as of 2006). In early 2007, the first location to be opened in Canada will be at the Vaughan Mills mall in Toronto.  at the Fallbrook Mall in West Hills. ``First it was the trendy slickers that sold out, but with more rain on the way, people are investing in the heavier topcoats, and we've ordered more to keep up with requests.''

Colors are hot - pink, yellow, green, lilac and orange - with rubber boots (ankle- or calf-length) and hats matching your slicker.

For more warmth, classic trench coats provide zip-out linings and longer lengths. Inspired by the uniforms of England's World War I officers, trench coats - also called topcoats or all-weather coats - are noted for their double-breasted design, often with epaulets on the shoulders, in tan, gray or black.

To see how the latest styles stand up to the season's weather, we tested a few on local TV weathercasters Jillian Barberie Jillian Reynolds (born Jillian Warry on September 26, 1966, in Burlington, Ontario), best known by her former name Jillian Barberie, is a Canadian actress and television hostess.

She can currently be seen on the Los Angeles based show Good Day L.A..

He served as a DJ (Mark 'Crashman' Kriski) on Victoria's CKKQ-FM, meteorologist on Canada's The Weather Network in the 1980s, and now works at KTLA in Los Angeles.  of KTLA's ``Morning News.''

``It's cute and kept me dry, but nobody would take me seriously giving a weather report in pink,'' she laughed on donning one ensemble.

In a field once dominated by women, Kriski said he didn't mind being considered the morning news beefcake beef·cake

. ``If being a sex symbol is what I have to be, I'll sacrifice myself, 'cause I'm a giver,'' he joked as he struck a fencer's pose with his umbrella.

He liked the new, lightweight pullovers for sudden showers and didn't care for the popular hooded designs because they squash his hair. He also went for the dapper Dapper

Both weathercasters remarked on the challenge of reporting the weather in a town without weather. ``It's often just a ``drizzle watch,'' said Barberie, ``so we have to ad-lib a lot to make the report more entertaining.''

``You know, it's really difficult,'' Kriski said, ``because L.A. County is so big, and the Southland is geographically complex. We may look at satellite photos in the morning but then have to adjust our report ... it may start raining in Ventura but be dry in the Valley.''
