A half-dozen utility poles were splintered by lightning strikes near 50th Street East and Avenue R-8. Other poles were hit in Littlerock, she said.

The storm developed from a low-pressure system that drew moisture into Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  from Mexico, weather forecasters said. Forecasters had expected the storm to create periodic showers, but instead it contained enough moisture to produce steady rain.

The National Weather Service predicted mostly sunny Antelope Valley skies today, with an afternoon high temperature about 90. Mostly sunny skies are expected to continue through the weekend.
