STONE & WEBSTER SELECTED FOR MALAYSIAN PROJECT

 BOSTON, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation today announced that a joint venture will oversee development of a major power project in Malaysia.
 SWEC Zainal, a joint venture of Stone & Webster and Raja Tan Sri Zainal Sdn. Bhd., a local engineering firm, will act as the owner's engineer for construction of the $1.28 billion Lumut Power Plant, which was planned to respond to growing electricity demand in the Southeast Asian nation. The work will last for three and a half years.
 The plant will be a two-unit, combined-cycle facility powered by natural gas. It will generate 1300 megawatts of electricity. Malaysia has extensive has reserves.
 The owner is an independent power producer known as Sikap Energy Ventures. The gas distribution line that Stone & Webster helped to build in Malaysia will supply fuel to the power plant.
