STEVENS NAMED HEAD OF PRESS-TELEGRAM.

LONG BEACH - Mark Stevens has been named publisher of the Press- Telegram, a sister newspaper to the Daily News.

The appointment, effective Thursday, was announced by John Schueler, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group The Los Angeles Newspaper Group is an umbrella group of local daily newspapers published in the greater Los Angeles area by MediaNews Group. The news coverage of the newspapers are mainly local stories. .

``Mark brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Press-Telegram,'' said Schueler. ``His strong track record of leadership and performance will well serve the employees and customers in Long Beach.''

Stevens comes from Rogers Publishing of Toronto, where he served as group publisher. Prior to Rogers Publishing, Stevens was publisher and CEO of the Toronto Sun The Toronto Sun is an English language daily newspaper published in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is published as a tabloid and is known for its daily "Sunshine Girl" feature and for its populist conservative editorial stance.  and vice president of corporate operations for the parent company, Sun Media.

Earlier, Stevens was vice president and chief financial officer at The Houston Post The Houston Post was a newspaper in Houston, Texas, United States that was established on February 19, 1880, by Gail Borden Johnson.

Though that original publication ceased in October 1884, the Houston Post was re-established with the merger of the
 when MediaNews Group Not to be confused with Media General, an unrelated newspaper and TV group.
MediaNews Group, based in Denver, Colorado, is one of the largest newspaper companies in the United States.
, parent company of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, owned it.

``Coming back to the MediaNews Group in Long Beach is just fantastic,'' said Stevens. ``Joining a growing and incredibly innovative organization is very exciting.''

Stevens, 45, replaces Ian Lamont, who was appointed publisher and CEO of the Alameda Newspaper Group in Oakland, also part of MediaNews Group.

Stevens will be joined by his wife, Trish, and their children, Kyle, 18, and Kevin, 16.

In addition to the Daily News and the Press-Telegram, LANG newspapers include the Pasadena Star-News, Whittier Daily News, San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire.  Tribune, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, The Sun of San Bernardino, and the Redlands Daily Facts. LANG has a combined circulation of 520,595 daily and 592,055 Sunday, forming the equivalent of the nation's eighth-largest daily and 17th-largest Sunday newspaper.
