 STERLING BANK PROMOTES JOHN F. TREANOR TO EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
 WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sterling Bank, a wholly- owned subsidiary of Sterling Bancshares Corporation (NASDAQ: STLG), announced today that John F. Treanor, 45 was promoted to executive vice president. In addition, Treanor serves as chief financial officer of the bank and treasurer and secretary of the corporation.
 Treanor joined Sterling in 1991, as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining Sterling, he was with Shawmut National Corporation for 22 years and most recently held the position of senior vice president -- manager of financial planning.
 Treanor is a graduate of St. Anslem College and received a masters degree from Suffolk University. In addition, he completed the
 program for management development at Harvard Business School and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
 Sterling Bank has assets in excess of $935 million and offers a comprehensive line of business and personal banking services at its 13 offices located in nine communities in Middlesex County.
