STEPPING OUT A.V. SENIORS' DANCE TEAM SCORES HONORS.

, a competition dance team made up of seniors, won honors in the Starpower National Competitions last month in Las Vegas.

The troupe performed three numbers at the Aladdin Hotel, achieving enough points for three first honors, two in the elite gold category and one in the platinum.

The group also received the Mama Mia award.

The dancers, whose average age is 69, were individually introduced and received a standing ovation in the packed auditorium.

Dancers attending were Barbara Adolph, Nancy Bohman, Mary Dahl, Darlene Ellerkamp, Bert Ewing, Carol Hoey, Joann Marshall, Barbara Mitchell, Suzanne O'Leno, Patricia Paige, Barbara Parkhurst, Joyce Pearson and Marilyn Wilson.

In order to qualify for the national competition, the Mamas had performed in San Diego at Starpower's Regional Competitions in April, placing fourth and fifth in the top five of the judges' scale, as well as winning a gold, an elite gold and a platinum.

The Boogie Woogie Mamas is affiliated with Caravan Dance Studio in Palmdale and is scheduled to perform at the Antelope Valley Fair on Senior Citizens Day, at 9 p.m. on Aug. 26.
