STECK-VAUGHN PUBLISHING CORPORATION ELECTS DR. MANUEL J. JUSTIZ A DIRECTOR

 AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Roy E. Mayers, president and chief executive officer of Steck-Vaughn Publishing Corporation (NASDAQ), today announced the election of noted educator Dr. Manuel J. Justiz to the company's board of directors.
 According to Mayers, Dr. Justiz, dean of the College of Education at the University of Texas, is a former director of the National Institute of Education. He worked with the National Commission on Excellence in Education in the production of the celebrated study "A Nation at Risk," which warned of declining standards in American schools and the consequent economic dangers to society.
 Dr. Justiz earned his doctorate in higher education administration from Southern Illinois University and is the recipient of a number of honorary degrees.
 Steck-Vaughn Publishing Corporation is one of the nation's largest publishers of supplemental educational materials used in elementary, secondary and adult education.
