STECK-VAUGHN PUBLISHING CORP. ANNOUNCES SECOND QUARTER RESULTS

 AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Steck-Vaughn Publishing Corp. (NASDAQ: STEK) today announced that for the three months ended June 30, 1993, net income increased 28 percent to $2,444,000 or $.18 per share compared to $1,914,000 or $.15 per share for the prior year period. Revenues increased 19 percent to $14,096,000 compared to revenues of $11,800,000 last year.
 For the first six months of 1993, Steck-Vaughn reported net income of $3,447,000 or $.26 per share compared to $2,738,000 or $.21 per share for the prior year period. Revenues increased to $24,279,000 compared to $19,905,000 for the same period last year.
 The company said that its second quarter benefited from the successful introduction of a new software product for adult education, Pre-GED 2000, which has received excellent initial acceptance in the marketplace. Additionally, the acquisition of the Magnetic Way product line in the second quarter reflected positively on revenues as the Steck-Vaughn sales force began to introduce the new line of classroom products to its customer base.
