The game's layout is relatively the same. You have your choices of single-player and multiplayer modes with online capability. But there is an even greater emphasis on vehicular destruction, whether it's in a grand prix-style race or the series' signature feature, the ``crash event.'' The crash event essentially consists of you hurtling your car into a busy intersection or freeway, trying to cause a spectacular slam dance of destruction. The higher the monetary damage, the better your score. If you want, you can even make your car explode to add the element of flying metal. In the ``Revenge'' crash events, EA has changed the acceleration process. Instead of simply hitting the gas and touching speed boost icons en route to the crash, there's now a ``Madden''-style kickoff timing meter. Do it right and you're off to a good start. Mess up and you could accidentally blow up your car. This adds more flair to what would normally be a mundane task, but accidentally detonating det·o·nate intr. & tr.v. det·o·nat·ed, det·o·nat·ing, det·o·nates To explode or cause to explode. Perhaps the game's best attribute is the ability to use traffic as a weapon.
