STATEMENT FROM CRAY RESEARCH PRESIDENT AND COO
EAGAN, Minn., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The following letter was sent

to all Cray Research (NYSE: CYR) employees by John F. Carlson, president and chief operating officer:
I want to make you aware of several important developments in our marketing and sales organizations.
I regret to advise that Ed Masi, executive vice president of marketing, has submitted his resignation in order to accept an executive management opportunity with the Intel Corporation.
In his new position, Ed will be president of Intel's new supercomputing division and will also be an officer of the parent company. After 12 years of close association, I have developed a great regard for Ed and his talents and I am sorry to see him leave Cray Research.
The new marketing organization recently outlined and announced will proceed to completion, as planned.
I am, at the same time, pleased to announce that Dr. Joe Gloudeman, former president and CEO of MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation, has accepted our offer to fill the vacant position of vice president, marketing, reporting to me. In his new position Joe will be responsible for supervising our seven key industry managers and their initiative programs, marketing planning, ELS/VAR programs, product marketing programs and IS&T. Joe will also serve on the operations committee and on the Cray Research Superservers, Inc. Board.
In addition, Joe will serve on a new sales council, with Mike Lindseth, Bob Ewald, Carl Diem, Chick Shue, Yoshikazu Hori and Bryan Little. This group -- which represents the industry's best sales skills around the world -- will assist me by focusing on current sales activities and opportunities and sharing information on a regular basis. I have repeatedly talked about our need for teamwork throughout the organization and I can't think of a better place to start -- or a finer group of individuals -- than in the all-important area of sales.
Gloudeman, who begins his new assignment following this week's board meeting, has a wealth of experience gained from helping organize and grow MacNeal-Schwendler from a virtual startup to one of the industry's most successful companies. Further, Joe is known and respected throughout our industry and customer base and arrives with a comprehensive understanding of our company and market opportunities. Please join me in welcoming Joe to the Cray Research team.
I will provide additional pertinent information as soon as possible, and, as always, I invite you to address any concerns or issues you may have to me directly.
