STATEMENT BY GENERAL MOTORS CEO AND PRESIDENT JOHN F. SMITH JR. ON THE PASSAGE OF THE NORTH AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors (NYSE: GM) CEO and President John F. Smith Jr. made the following statement on the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA):
By saying "yes" to NAFTA, the U.S. House of Representatives has made good on a great window of opportunity for America. For the first time, American-made products will be able to compete fairly in Mexico without the burden of tariffs and other barriers. The agreement is a major step in the direction of economic growth, jobs and continued progress for all three countries.
Now we must set aside our differences on the issue and make sure NAFTA works well for all Americans.
