STATE-OF-THE-ART LAB UNDER CONSTRUCTION.


NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology, Washington, DC, www.nist.gov) The standards-defining agency of the U.S. government, formerly the National Bureau of Standards. It is one of three agencies that fall under the Technology Administration (www.technology.  has awarded the $174 million contract to construct one of the most technologically advanced buildings in the world, the NIST Advanced Measurement Laboratory, in Gaithersburg, MD.

When it is ready for occupancy in 2004, the 47 480 [m.sup.2] (511 070 [ft.sup.2) AML AML - A Manufacturing Language  will allow NIST to provide U.S. industry and science with improved measurements and standards, and more rapidly developed research advances.
