In all, five new veterans homes are proposed in California. Lancaster City Manager Robert LaSala will have a presentation on the Lancaster home, which is to be built on land donated by the city. First proposed in 1991, the Lancaster home for years was delayed by opposition from former Gov. Gray Davis. It is to be named for the late state Sen. William J. ``Pete'' Knight, who was a decorated Air Force pilot. Construction is scheduled to start in 2007 and be completed in late 2008 or early 2009, though state officials are worried about the availability of federal funding.
