STATE REVOKES FAMILY DAY CARE LICENSE OF VENTURA COUPLE

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Department of Social Services has revoked the community care license held by Barbara A. and Larry H. Knutson of Ventura to operate a family day care and foster family home, on charges of physical abuse and the use of corporal punishment.
"Most child care providers in California abide by the regulations established to ensure the health and safety of the children," said Eloise Anderson, department director. "Unfortunately, we sometimes find individuals who ignore the terms of their licenses, and to protect the children we must revoke the operator's license."
The revocation took effect as of Oct. 6, 1993. The Knutsons' facility was licensed by the Ventura County Public Social Services department on May 22, 1991, as a foster family home for two children, and on the same date as a family day care home with a capacity of six children. According to the state's records, on several occasions the Knutson's struck a child in their care with a belt, causing the child to suffer pain and bruises.
The county licenses foster care and family day care facilities under the state's Health and Safety Code, and the regulations established by the California Department of Social Services. For information about foster care or child care facilities, contact the Ventura County Public Social Services department at 805-654-3456.
