STATE PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY AGENCIES FOR PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, MENTAL ILLNESS AND THE CLIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (P&AS).


State Protection and Advocacy The act of Pleading or arguing a case or a position; forceful persuasion.  (P&As) offices are federally mandated to provide legally based advocacy services to people with disabilities in each state and territory. P&As primarily advocate advocate: see attorney.  on behalf of special education students through funds from two federal programs--Protection and Advocacy for People with Developmental Disabilities developmental disabilities (DD),
n.pl the pathologic conditions that have their origin in the embryology and growth and development of an individual. DDs usually appear clinically before 18 years of age.

These two programs join two other programs--Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI PAIMI Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness ) and the Client Assistance Program (CAP)--to complete the entire P&A System.

P&As all over the country work on a variety of cases with common themes for people with disabilities, one of which is ensuring that children in special education are receiving the services to which they are entitled en·ti·tle

People with disabilities, their family members, and representatives are encouraged to make use of these services. Consistent with available resources and priorities established by the community, the P&A will make every effort to provide appropriate assistance to remedy The manner in which a right is enforced or satisfied by a court when some harm or injury, recognized by society as a wrongful act, is inflicted upon an individual.
